Site about the garden, cottage and houseplants

Competent gardeners in the selection of seeds are accustomed to focus not only on the characteristics of the variety, but also on regional recommendations. For example, varieties of peppers for the Moscow region and Siberia will be different. But many universal varieties have also been bred - they are suitable for growing absolutely in all regions of Russia.

An interesting sign has been published on the website of the State Committee of the Russian Federation, which lists varieties of peppers and next to them the number of the region in which the variety is approved for use. Moscow region (Moscow region) refers to the Central region. It is indicated in the table at number 3. Varieties marked with an asterisk are suitable for cultivation in all regions of Russia. These two categories will be interesting to us.

On the same site you will find a file of varieties, where each of them is described in detail. Stepping on the varieties, you can choose the right for you. Unfortunately, there is no photo in the file cabinet:

The most popular varieties of peppers with photos and a brief description look on our website:

Varieties of peppers for the Moscow region from the register of the State Commission of the Russian Federation

We give here first varieties of peppersrecommended for some regions of Russia, including for the Moscow region (Moscow region). If the number 3 stands next to it, then the variety is allowed. for cultivation in the Moscow region.

Growing thick-walled peppers in the suburbs

Salad pepper, also called Bulgarian, is one of those crops that has firmly established itself in the hearts of gardeners. However, many had the impression that in the suburbs to grow thick-walled peppers more difficult than tasty and juicy tomatoes.

Believe me, if there is a desire, then the pepper will be.

For thick-walled fruit, choose the appropriate varieties. This year I liked the early large-fruited Danny and Goldene Mutter, mid-season Appetizing Miracle and Arcano. Nocturne and Africa turned out to be very unusual, as they ripened, they changed the color of fruits from black to red-brown and black aline. And oddly enough, in spite of the vagaries of the weather, I was also pleased with the later one, with chocolate-colored fruits. Sweet Chocolate. It was the thick-walled peppers that finally gave a full taste of ayvar (a billet of pepper baked on an open fire) - it turns out just awesome, juicy, with a slight tinge of smoking.

Pepper belongs to the same family as tomatoes, nightshade, so some stages of “growing up” peppers and tomatoes are similar. However, I sow peppers much earlier, in early February.

I disinfect the seeds with an intensely pink solution of potassium permanganate for 20 minutes, rinse with cold water, then with hot (60 °) - and so 4-5 times, then lay them in pots with unfrozen, steamed, short, prepared soil.

(20-21°). In my case, I place the racks with seedlings, covered with foil foam, at the battery (window - in one glass). Thus, the roots are warm, and the aboveground part is cool.

If two powerful plants develop in a pot and it is difficult to choose a leader, I leave everything. And planted in one hole. Strangely enough, they feel great in such conditions, incomparably better than the plants that survived the picking.

IMPORTANT. My peppers are in plastic boxes, I pour water there - it turns out bottom watering. Roots stretch to moisture, the root system is developing, and the top layer of soil remains dry - thus, there are no attacks from the black leg. Watering is not fanatical - twice a week. So the root system is not damaged. Pepper is very painful about her injuries, which is why I do not dive into the plants.

In the early stages, I do not feed the peppers, because in the prepared soil there was humus, ash, peat - the seedlings lack what was originally laid.

My greenhouse is occupied by tomatoes, and there is nothing left for the peppers, how to bear fruit in the open ground, really under cover. In the spring, when it is cool, I lay out the film and nonwoven fabric in arcs. But last summer, plants had to be covered with a non-wedge every evening, because at a temperature below 13 ° the growth and development of fruits are inhibited, and with sharp fluctuations in temperature and humidity the plant can throw off buds and ovaries.

The most important thing - when transplanting into the ground, do not bury the plants, as we used to do with tomatoes. Pepper is bad and slowly raises additional roots. Planted peppers at a distance of 30-50 cm from each other.

Culture loves breathable soil. I have it sandy, and even the holes are richly filled with humus and ash, spilled with a solution of potassium permanganate, so that the plants feel comfortable. Unless, as necessary, I loosen the soil, without damaging the roots of the plants, and water twice a week with warm water.

IMPORTANT. If you use mulch, then it can be laid out not earlier than the soil warms up.

During the season, I feed plants several times with herbal brew. More is not required, because in the wells a pretty decent amount of organic matter.

As for the forming, I try not to interfere with the development of plants (in the open field they are not as high as in the greenhouse). Perhaps my opinion is not true, but I'm not complaining about the harvests. I remove (pinch) only the leaves located below the first fork so that they do not touch the ground, and I do this when the fruits begin to fill.

Thanks to adequate nutrition, plants constantly bloom and tie fruit, and I regularly shoot ripe ones.

A pair of small tricks when growing pepper

For all the growing season, I do not treat peppers from pests or diseases, they are not. Is that once sprayed with boric acid (South to 15 liters of water) - to increase the yield.

The deformed fruits of pepper are formed if the temperature and humidity do not meet the requirements of the culture. But if you provide them with normal conditions, then only the last peppers of the season will be deformed - due to the difference between day and night temperatures in autumn.

Tell me what happened to my peppers? After the pickling seedling was transplanted into a new soil. But after a week and a half, the donets began to stop growing, bending. A transplant in another ground saved, but time was lost (it was necessary to pinch a growth point, replacing it with stepchildren).

This is similar to a non-infectious disease and is most likely associated with a deficiency or excess of trace elements. For example, with a lack of copper, the young leaves are twisted in a boat upward and the petioles twist down. In acute boron deficiency at the top of the plant, the point of growth of the main stem dies off and lateral shoots are formed. Necrotic mottling of leaves and the gradual twisting of the petioles of young leaves is observed during zinc starvation. An excess of potassium can lead to growth retardation and slowing down, while the color of the leaves becomes dark green. Such symptoms are usually distributed throughout the plant, especially strongly on young leaves. An excess of zinc and copper can lead to the development of small leaves, thin stems, and dwarfism of plants. All this is often accompanied by inter-vein chlorosis, reddening of the underside of the young and twisting down more mature leaves.
The appearance of these symptoms with a lack of batteries is usually associated with a violation of the normal metabolism of the plant. With an excess of possible toxicosis, dysregulation of functions within the cells or the plant as a whole.

The reader did right, changing the ground and pinching the point of growth. This is the only way to reanimate the affected seedlings. But what to do in the future? When buying a new soil, even if it is a proven manufacturer, it is worth checking it out, having landed experimental bushes ahead of time. If they develop normally, the soil is suitable for seedlings. Well, if symptoms of trouble reappear, it is better to take the land of another manufacturer. A bag of suspicious soil can be disposed of, poured into compost and mixed with plant residues and manure.

Sweet pepper varieties for the Moscow region and the Urals, their cultivation

Coming from Central America, sweet pepper, like tomatoes with eggplants, belongs to the family of solanaceous crops, and does not grow under natural conditions in the weather conditions of Russia. Therefore, it is propagated by seedling method, and only in summer it is planted in open ground, preferably in a greenhouse. Breeders created varieties of sweet peppers, unpretentious to temperature drops and resistant to its lowering, the most diverse color of fruits, from yellow to dark red and even purple.

The form is also diverse: small and round, large cone-shaped, pyramidal, similar to tomatoes, and others. Resistant to cold temperatures, disease-resistant, not requiring hardships in production, pepper gives excellent yields even in Siberia.

Cultivation of sweet pepper

Seedlings are planted on seedlings in February or in the first week of March. Regardless of the sweet pepper variety, seeds germinate for quite a long time, from 15 to 20 days. In order to accelerate the germination, use aloe juice, diluting it with water 1: 1, soaking in it the seeds for a day or two. The seedling does not spike (does not transplant with a tearing off of the central root, like tomatoes).

Seedlings are planted in open ground when the soil warms up and the temperature is not less than 25 or 20 degrees (14 ... 17 at night). In the south, where it is higher, they need to be watered regularly, otherwise the plants will drop ovaries and flowers.

Heat at 40 degrees and higher causes the roots to die out and the plants wither. All varieties of sweet pepper prefer sunny areas with good soil, fertile and rich in nitrogen. In the shade they are drawn out, the ovary is poorly formed and the fruits are ripening.

Care usual: weed, water and loosen, feed in time (during watering). The best feeding is bird droppings, which need to be diluted with water quite strongly: there is no more glass of droppings per bucket of water. It is good to add humus to the soil before planting.

Varieties for different climates

When selecting any variety, it is necessary to take into account the conditions of its growth. They must be strictly observed, because this is one of the main prerequisites for the fact that the seeds will make excellent seedlings for further planting in open ground.

Consider the varieties of sweet peppers, which are best suited for cultivation in the Moscow region. The early ripening varieties that will grow well and bear fruit in the Moscow region include: Orange miracle, Rhapsody, Semko, Fidelio, Buratino, Winnie-the-Pooh, Funtik, Atlantic, Agapovsky, Eroshka and Chardage. All these varieties in this natural-climatic zone will give excellent yield, while not requiring to themselves a certain additional care beyond the necessary.

The subspecies of the average ripening period, suitable for cultivation in the climatic conditions of the Moscow region, include: Gift of Moldova, Golden rain and Volzhanin. They, in terms of yield, are significantly inferior to early-ripe species (about 6 kg per m2) and produce medium-sized fruits (from 70 to 100 g).

However, these species are not at all suitable for cultivation in more severe climatic zones, for example, in Siberia or the Urals. Despite the rather difficult climate in these areas, there is an opportunity to grow even such a rather unusual plant for these latitudes. But here you will need to make much more effort to care for this plant. It is much more difficult to obtain seedlings from seeds, it will be necessary to additionally cover them in cold periods, etc.

Early ripening types of sweet pepper that are well cultivated in Siberia include the following types: Kolobok and Topolin. Both have weak growth properties and give relatively large fruits.

By mid-season species suitable for these climatic conditions include: Swallow, Siberian Firstborn, Gift of Moldova, Victoria.

In the Urals, such varieties of early ripening peppers as Montero, United, Selvia, Dobrynya Nikitich, Pepper, Buratino, Kudesnik, Bulgarian, Sonata, Barguzin Kubyshka and Latino will grow well.

Middle-ripening varieties suitable for similar climatic conditions include: Alyosha Popovich, Aries, Player, Vityaz Agapovsky, Zorka,.

Diseases and pests of pepper

The main control measure is chemical spraying.

Of the pests the most dangerous for pepper are the aphid, spider mite, bare slugs and the Colorado potato beetle. They are fought by spraying the plant with pesticides.

Timely prevention and control of pests and diseases is the key to a healthy shrub and a good harvest.

When selecting varieties for breeding in your area, it is necessary to navigate in the main indicators of the best subspecies. Thanks to this, you can deservedly expect a rich and high-quality harvest.

Hot pepper can be grown in its own garden, as it is used in limited quantities, it is usually fruitful, and you can most likely “close” the needs for the volume of hot pepper until next year with your own efforts. The bitter taste of the pepper gives the substance ал-alkaloid capsoicin (8-methyl-6-nonenoic acid vanililamide); its sharpness depends on its concentration. there is already an eff CT sharply bitter. This substance is also found in sweet peppers, but its percentage is much less (about 0.3%). In bitter peppers, the percentage of the substance (capsoicin alkaloid) reaches 2%. Varieties of bitter pepper can not be planted near varieties of sweet peppers, as super-pollination is possible, and in the end, instead of sweet peppers, you will also get bitter. Varieties for the Moscow region

Even an experienced vegetable grower is not easy to navigate among a huge number of varieties of sweet pepper, what can we say about those who did it for the first time. The table below shows the most popular and fruitful varieties of thick-walled pepper in the opinion of vegetable growers, which can be safely grown in the Moscow region.

Growing seedlings

Growing peppers, both sweet and hot, in the Moscow region is possible only through seedlings. This can be done both with a pick and without. It is necessary to take into account the following, if direct planting of seedlings is planned in the ground, then it is sown 45-50 days before the planned planting dates, but if there are picks in the plans, then sowing is carried out 50-60 days.

Presowing seed preparation

For the seeds to give strong and friendly shoots they need to be prepared in advance. To do this, they are placed in salted water. Wherein empty seeds will float, and the full will settle to the bottom. They are collected, washed and laid out on a newspaper or any other paper to dry.

To reduce the likelihood of disease at the seedling stage, seeds must be etched. For these purposes, use a dark pink solution of potassium permanganate. Seeds are dipped in it for 10 minutes. After which they are washed and dried a little. Do this immediately before landing.

For the accelerated getting of shoots, sowing is carried out with pre-wetted seeds. To do this, they are placed in a bag of gauze and immersed in warm water for 5-6 hours. After which the wet bag is placed in a warm place. After a few days, the seeds begin to germinate. After that, you can begin to sow them.

The optimum temperature for growing pepper seedlings is + 27 °. For sowing, a loose and nutritious soil is required; for this purpose, you can purchase a ready-made substrate for growing pepper seedlings. Depth of seeding should not exceed 0.5 cm.

Important! It is very important to choose the correct seed embedment depth. When too deep sowing seedlings are very weak and thin, and when too shallow seeds dry up, and not having time to sprout.

Seedling care

Before germination, the temperature is maintained at a level of 27-28 ° C. Further, it must be reduced to 25 ° during the day and 15-18 ° at night.

When sown in February, pepper seedlings need additional lighting. For this you can use fluorescent lamps or special fitolampy. You need to finish at least 12 hours a day, it is best to do it from 8 am to 8 pm.

In phase 1-2 of these leaves, you must conduct the first feeding. To do this, use a special complex fertilizer for seedlings, it should be diluted according to the instructions. After 2 weeks feeding must be repeated.

For watering seedlings using water at room temperature. Watering should be only after the drying of the top layer of soil. Increased humidity, especially when combined with high temperatures, leads to stretching of the seedlings. Also, excessive watering provokes the emergence of such a dangerous disease as “black leg”, which can kill up to 90% of plants.

Before planting pepper begin to harden. For this, containers with it are carried out to a balcony, a veranda, or a window is opened. This should be done gradually, gradually increasing the time spent in the fresh air.

Landing on a permanent place

By embarking pepper start when the plants will be from 7-12 leaves. High-quality seedlings should be sturdy and stocky-looking., its height should not exceed 25 cm, and on individual plants by this time the first flower buds should appear. Before planting, the seedlings are carefully shed. This makes it easier for her to reschedule the transplant process.

The best precursors for this crop are cucumbers, pumpkins, zucchini or beans. You can not plant this culture after other plants from the family of the nightshade. The time of landing in open ground depends on the climatic conditions of a particular region. Under the conditions of Moscow region, this is the second half of May or the first days of June. The soil at the time of landing should be heated to a temperature of 18 ° C. Also at this time it is very important to protect the seedlings from returnable frosts.

For disembarking it is best to choose a cool and cloudy day. Plants are planted in furrows or beds, and the distance between the bushes should be 35 cm, and between rows 50-60 cm. To accelerate the survival process of planting, cover with non-woven material such as "Spunbond" or "Agrospana".

Care of adult plants

To pepper pleased with a bountiful harvest, it will require periodic care. Of the main care activities, the following can be highlighted:

  • Watering. Pepper - moisture-loving culture. Therefore, for successful growth and development, it requires timely and abundant watering. In hot and dry time it should be daily. Before the onset of mass flowering, watering can be done by sprinkling, then you need to irrigate only at the root.
  • Loosening. After watering, a crust forms on the soil, which limits the access of oxygen to the roots. As a result, the root system does not develop, and the bushes grow weak. To avoid this beds with pepper after watering must be loosened. It should be careful, this culture has a superficial root system, which is very easy to damage.
  • Top dressing. For these purposes, you can use both complex mineral fertilizers and organic. They need to alternate. The interval between them should be about 10 days. Pepper responds very well to fertilizing with infusion of mullein, which is diluted in proportion to 1 part of mullein per 10 parts of water.

  • Garter. Tall varieties of pepper need a mandatory garter. To do this, use wooden pegs or special supports.
  • Pepper plants need shaping. For this, the first flowers and stepchildren are removed.
  • Weed removal and loosening. Like any other crop, planting peppers must be weeded. Weed grass can be used for mulching between rows. This technique reduces the number of irrigations, and inhibits the growth of weeds.
  • The use of covering material. Pepper is a very thermophilic culture. Therefore, in the cool and rainy summer of its landing is required to cover non-woven material that protects it from the temperature drops.
  • Fruits can be harvested gradually as they mature. It is undesirable to leave ripe peppers on the bushes, as they inhibit the development of new ones. Fruits need to be cut, and not break open, the branches of the pepper are fragile and break easily.

Important! It is impossible to plant peppers near the sweet and bitter varieties, otherwise as a result of the inter-pollination, instead of the sweet one, you will get a bitter pepper.
