How to grow Rinda cabbage in a seedless way

White cabbage "Rinda F1" - quite popular today variety.

Undemanding care, adaptability to different climatic conditions, immunity to diseases and pests, abundant yields of the tastiest product make vegetable cultivation attractive not only in household plots, but also for commercial purposes.

The heads of this variety are of spherical shape, dense structure, pale green. The leaves are thin but durable. The compact uniform size of a ripe head of cabbage varies from four to six kilograms (it happens eight). The stalk is short. Cabbage leaves are characterized by a delicate juicy taste. The main distinctive feature of the variety is the absence of cracks on the vegetable during ripening, prolonged stay in the soil and transportation.

"Rinda F1" - a beautiful mid-season hybrid of Dutch breeders. The ripening of the vegetable comes on 95-105 day after planting the seedlings. Cabbage heads grow as a selection, almost equal in size and weight, on the cut they are white. The variety is intended for fresh consumption, processing and storage (four months).

The timing of planting seeds

The seedlings of mid-season cabbage are placed at a depth of 1-1.5 cm in April. It is considered that it is necessary to plant seed for 60-65 days before the intended planting of seedlings in the ground.

Seed preparation

Seed preparation includes the following steps:

  1. Soak the seeds in a 3% salt solution for 5-8 minutes for calibration (the bad ones will float, and the good ones will settle to the bottom).
  2. Hold in hot water (about 50 degrees) for 20-30 minutes for disinfection. At the same time, the temperature must be observed, since at a temperature of less than 48 ° C the processing result is zero, and above 50 ° C, the germination of seed material is lost.
  3. Soak for 12 hours with water at room temperature to accelerate seed germination. Water change every 4 hours.
  4. Soak soaked seeds a day on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator (1-2 ° C) for hardening.
  5. Next - dry to remove stickiness and can be planted.

Sowing seeds

Sowing is best done immediately in separate pots, cups 5x5 cm in size. At the same time, the roots will gain a good amount and will not be injured during transplantation (a gentle way). If planted in a tray, a wooden box, then after the emergence of shoots they are thinned out, leaving each seedling an area of 2x2 cm. After two weeks they make picking, that is, sprouts are transplanted to unoccupied plots according to the 3x3 cm scheme. After half a month, they again dive into separate containers to improve viability. Before each transplant, seedlings are watered generously.

The containers are treated with a weak solution of copper sulfate. Picks

Conditions and care for crops

Cabbage loves light, space and timely watering. It is not enough to choose the most illuminated place in the greenhouse - it is necessary to carry out additional illumination with a fluorescent lamp at least 12 hours a day, observe temperature indicators: +18. +20 ° C around the clock until germination. Then - from +15 to +17 ° С in the daytime, and at night - 8. 10 ° С above zero. Such drops strengthen the seedlings and prevent stretching.

Watering is necessary moderate, not allowing both the overdrying of the soil and its waterlogging. When exceeding the moisture level will help loosening the soil.

Time first feeding comes a week after the picking (per liter of water, two grams of potash fertilizer and ammonium nitrate, four grams of superphosphate). A liter of the resulting composition is enough for 50-60 seedlings.

The second - comes two weeks later. Feed the same composition, doubling the amount per liter.

Third dressing carried out two days before the landing in the ground: a liter of water mixed with 3 grams of ammonium nitrate, 5 grams of superphosphate, 8 grams of potash fertilizers. The rate of potash rises for better rooting sprouts. It is more convenient to replace the composition of dressings with complex fertilizer in the finished liquid form.

Hardening seedlings

Hardening of seedlings contributes to the development of the root and facilitates the survival of the plant in a new place. Behind 10 days before landing in the ground proceed to the process of hardening. The first two days open access to fresh air for 3-4 hours. The next few days, young seedlings exposed to direct sunlight for two hours, a suitable place for this will be a veranda, loggia. Make sure that the spring sun does not burn young leaves. On the sixth day, transfer the plants to the open balcony or the same veranda and reduce the frequency of watering, and before planting they water it abundantly.

Transplanting seedlings in open ground

At 30-45 days after the emergence of shoots plan to plant at a permanent place. The density of cabbage heads should correspond to a norm of 3-4 plants per square meter. Landing plant cabbage seedlings prepared in the fall. They dig up the earth and subject it to liming (0.5 kg of limestone flour per square meter). Bring in organic at the rate of 1 bucket for each square. m

After planting the seedlings, the area is moistened and treated with a herbicide to prevent the growth of weeds.

The best precursors of medium cabbage varieties (including Rinda F1) are cucumbers, zucchini, squash, pumpkin, early potatoes, legumes, carrots and turnips. It is unacceptable to disembark after a beetroot and two times in a row at the same place.

Care Tips

Get a good harvest will help timely watering, quality weeding, loosening and hilling of young seedlings. Please note that Rinda F1 especially needs good lighting. The dense shadow of the trees will have a negative effect on the formation of the head.

Mid-season cabbage variety “Rinda F1” prefers abundant rainwater humidification. Watering is carried out regularly every 3-4 days at the rate of 8-10 liters of water per square meter. m. Gradually it is necessary to increase the volume to 12-14 liters per square meter. m, but water less often, every 7-9 days.

Soil care

Loosening the soil to a depth of 8-10 cm is carried out after each irrigation. Hilling is done at least twice during the growth period. The first is done in 10-15 days after landing in the ground for additional protection and assistance to a weak seedling. The second is produced after 35-40 days for vigorous growth and the correct formation of the cabbage head. Spud should be on a quiet day without rain, at the same time removed sprouted weeds.

The first feeding is intended for the growth of greenery and is carried out two weeks later planting in the ground. Preference is given to nitrogen fertilizers (as an example, 30 grams of urea is stirred with a bucket of water). Each plant requires 0.5 liters of fertilizer.

The time for the next feeding comes in 14 days. Choose the best phosphate-potash fertilizers (heading is going on). The composition may be as follows: half a liter of mullein mixed with a bucket of water, insist two days. Each plant to feed a liter of the resulting solution. The composition of the dressings may vary according to your discretion and the current schedules of the gardener. The procedure should be carried out on a cloudy day or late in the evening after watering.

Harvest time comes in August-September, you can expect approximately 8-10 kilograms per square meter.

Advantages and disadvantages

Knowing the advantages and disadvantages of any crop, you can use the knowledge to obtain higher yields, prevent the difficulties of cultivation, prevent diseases, improve the presentation of horticultural products. The advantages of the variety "Rinda F1" include:

  • high yield,
  • lack of soil and climate,
  • resistance to diseases and pests
  • the absence of cracks on the heads, excellent taste,
  • high level of transportability.

To the disadvantages we define:

  • low drought tolerance
  • increased demands for sunlight.

Reviews gardeners about cabbage "Rinda"

The advantages of this variety of cabbage are much greater than the disadvantages, which makes it popular and in demand. Knowing the above features of growing seedlings, preparing the soil for sowing, feeding and watering plants, you can achieve high-quality harvest.

Rind's cabbage description: characteristic of the variety, its advantages and disadvantages

Rind’s hybrid cabbage variety has been bred in Holland, but has been successfully cultivated in Russia since 1993. During this time, the vegetable has become popular not only among experienced farmers, but also among amateur gardeners.

Cabbage of this variety belongs to mid-season hybrids that form the crop for three months of cultivation. The plant is compact, the sockets are not too spreading. Leaf color is light green. Rinda’s cabbages are dense, rounded, the stalk is small. With good care, cabbages reach a maximum weight of 10 kg. On average, cabbage head weighs no more than 5-6 kg.

Rinda variety - one of the high-yielding. Even a novice gardener can pick up more than 14 kg of cabbage from the square of the garden. To taste the heads are very delicate, juicy. Cabbage is suitable for stuffing, roasting and souring. Fresh vegetable is stored for about four months.

The variety has a lot of advantages, and this has earned the attention of professionals. Cultivated cabbage on almost any soil, the plant is resistant to most diseases. Heads keep a marketable appearance for a long time, do not crack on the beds, ripen amicably.

However, like any plant, Rinda cabbage is not without flaws. Over the years of cultivation, gardeners have revealed only a few drawbacks:

• variety does not tolerate stagnant moisture at the roots,

• for the formation of the heads requires good lighting,

• cabbage is afraid of high air humidity; when grown in a greenhouse, regular airing is required.

Before planting this variety, consider all the nuances so that the crop does not disappoint.

Features agricultural varieties: when and how to plant white cabbage Rinda

Rinda variety showed good results when grown in any climatic conditions. Cabbage easily tolerates small fluctuations in temperature, cabbages tied well, despite the weather.

Cabbage seeds are planted in early spring, the dates depend on the region of cultivation. The variety is cultivated both in the greenhouse and in open beds. Grow cabbage in a seedling or seedless manner. Today we will talk about how to plant cabbage directly into the ground.

In early April, it is worth preparing a bed, loosening the soil, and making humus. Place for planting for several days covered with a film to the earth warmed up well, and then proceed to sowing seeds.

Cabbage seeds are prepared in advance to improve germination. To do this, they are kept in the refrigerator chamber for several days, after which they are soaked in Fitosporin or Zircon solution. Prepared seeds are well dried.

The wells are formed at a distance of 30 cm from each other. In each well placed a few seeds. The beds are covered with a film or agrofibre again, shoots appear in 5-7 days. After the emergence of seedlings, the weakest shoots are culled. Thus, cabbage grows without transplants, is less injured and develops faster. Covering material will help protect cabbage from temperature changes and earthen fleas.

As you can see, there is nothing difficult in planting cabbage, the only thing to watch out for is the humidity in the greenhouse. Do not forget to regularly remove covering material and air landing.

How to get a rich harvest of cabbage Rinda: all about dressing varieties and proper watering

To please the cabbage crop, it is important to properly care for the plant. As already mentioned, the Rinda variety does not tolerate stagnant moisture at the roots, but does not tolerate excessive drought. Watering should be taken seriously.

Watered cabbage in the evening, spend up to 10 liters of water per head. If the weather is dry, the soil is moistened every three days. In addition, do not forget to loosen and spud the plant. If the site is far from home, then mulching will help to keep the soil moist. After watering, be sure to grumble the beds with humus, peat or other organic material.

Important! For irrigation it is better to use separated water, and not directly from the tap.

The yield of cabbage is influenced by feeding. Rind variety is fertilized at all stages of development. Immediately after the emergence of shoots and before the formation of the landing heads, they are fed with nitrogen fertilizers. You can use ready-made mineral mixtures or prepare the infusion yourself. Experienced gardeners noticed that cabbage loves yeast dressings very much. Prepare the mixture as follows:

Dissolve sugar and yeast in water, put the mixture in a well-lit place and leave to ferment for 5 days. Before feeding the infusion is diluted in pure water at a ratio of 1:10.

During the formation of the heads go to potash supplements:

• superphosphate - 10 gr,

• potassium sulfate - 10 gr,

Top dressing is prepared on a bucket of water, then the plants are watered. This amount of fertilizer is enough for watering 5-6 bushes.

According to the rules, fertilizing is carried out every 10-14 days, and two weeks before cleaning, they are not applied.

National methods of pest control: how to handle cabbage

Rinda's cabbage rarely gets sick, but in the open field pests bother her. The main ones are aphid, earthen flea, caterpillars and slugs, shovel, cabbage tree. Many gardeners use chemicals against pests, and we recommend using traditional methods of control.

Tobacco dust or ash will save from earthen flea landing. Plants are watered on a leaf and powdered with ashes. You can prepare the ash solution by adding a few tablespoons of detergent to it to keep the composition on the leaves better.

Aphids and caterpillars will be deterred by an infusion of tomato tops or onion peels. Take 2 kg of tops, pour five liters of water, boil for 3 hours, then cool. Before spraying, prepare a working mixture of infusion and water in a 1: 2 ratio.

It is useful to plant in cabbage beds marigolds, cilantro, mint and herbs. They deter pests and attract beneficial insects.

When to remove Rind cabbage from the garden and how to prepare the variety for storage

Rind's cabbage is fully prepared for harvesting in mid-August or early September. Cleaning is carried out in dry weather, the cabbages are cut with a sharp knife or dug together with the stalk.

Store the crop in a dry, well-ventilated area. To keep the heads dry, they are wrapped in paper. Powder chalk helps from rot. It is best to place the cabbages on a shelf or hang them by the stalk. Torn or cracked heads of cabbages should be recycled.

If all conditions are met, then the harvest is well kept fresh up to 4-5 months. Perfectly transfers transportation, preserves the appearance.

The origin of cabbage Rinda F1

Rind's cabbage is very popular in many countries. One of the reasons for its international fame is its origin. The variety was developed and promoted by one of the largest plant growers - Seminis Vegetable Seeds. The company was founded in 1994. The share of its products in the world market is 20%. In retail there are more than 3,500 species of seeds.

In 2005, Seminis became part of an even larger structure - the Monsanto Company. This company is known as a manufacturer of the world-wide herbicide Roundup. The main office is located in Missouri (USA).

Rinda F1 (Rinda) is a hybrid of white cabbage of average maturity. The variety is included in the State Register of the Russian Federation. This means that the culture has passed quality control by a local certification body, and a foreign manufacturer has received a Russian certificate. Rinda is certified for Central and Volga-Vyatka regions. Perhaps in other regions of Russia this variety will not be able to show all its positive qualities.

Characteristic variety

Rinda - sauerkraut. From shoots to technical ripeness, 100–110 days pass, and from landing in the ground - 70–80 days. Productivity largely depends on weather conditions and the quality of care. One head of cabbage can grow in weight and 3 kg, and 8 kg. Russian gardeners managed to get 12 kg. Typical weight for Rinda is 4-6 kg.

Botanical features and purpose

The leaves of Rinda are dark green with clearly distinguished light streaks. Heading - dense, has a spherical shape, resistant to cracking. The stalk inside is short.

This grade is recommended to be used fresh and for pickling. On the cut cabbage - yellow and white. Rinda has an excellent taste, without bitterness.

Site selection for planting

Under the cabbage Rinda choose a site open from morning to evening to the sun's rays. Shadows from neighboring trees, bushes, fence or tall crops should not violate this rule. In the shadow of Rinda can not tie a head out, and give only a lush rosette of leaves.

The best precursors for cabbage: garlic, onion, beans, peas, cucumbers, zucchini, carrots and potatoes. You can not plant Rindu after radish, turnip, turnip, rapeseed, mustard, watercress. Like cabbage, these plants belong to the cruciferous family. They have already taken out the necessary nutrients from the soil and have allocated the site with pests and diseases characteristic of this family. Although the cabbage itself can be grown in one place for 2 years, but it is not recommended to return it back earlier than after 4 years.

Another condition is the corresponding acidity of the soil. The soil for the sample taken from a depth of 35 cm, approximately at this level are the roots of cabbage.

Soil preparation

The acidic soil can be corrected by adding lime-fluff, crushed chalk or dolomite flour (1–2 cups per 1 m²) in autumn. On acid soils, the risk of infection with the keel increases, the effectiveness of fertilizers decreases. Rinda will receive less nutrients, will develop worse.

Since autumn, fertilizer needs to be applied, the rate per 1 m²:

  • 30–35 g of double superphosphate and 40–50 g of potassium sulfate,
  • 1.5 buckets of humus and 1-2 glasses of wood ash.

In the spring, up to 45 g per 1 m² of urea is introduced, or 1.5 buckets of humus each, if they did not dig the ground with it in the fall. Rates are given for the poorest soils. If fertility is maintained every year, then the dose of mineral fertilizers should be halved. Cabbage does not digest them and tends to accumulate nitrates. If organic is used, it is better to refuse mineral fertilizers.

The plot is dug up in the fall, without breaking lumps. Early spring land rake level.

How to grow seedlings Rinda on the windowsill

  1. Rinda ripens in 100–110 days after germination.
  2. Cabbage seeds sprout quickly - in 3–7 days.
  3. In the ground planted 35-day seedlings.
  4. Favorable temperature - 15–17 ° C, withstands freezing to -5 ° C.

Knowing this, the time of sowing and disembarking can be calculated by ourselves, since they depend on the climatic features of each particular region. Rinda is mid-season, usually her seedlings are planted from mid to late May. Seeds need to be sown 40–45 days before, which means in early April.

For sowing, since the fall, a soil mixture is prepared from 1 part of the earth, 1 part of humus and wood ash (1 tbsp per kg of soil mixture). You can buy ready-made soil for seedlings, universal or specifically for cabbage. They are sold under the brands: Bio Master, Our Dacha, Success, Garant, etc.

Before you begin sowing, carefully read the recommendations on the bag of seeds. It happens that the seeds are already processed, then you need to follow the manufacturer's instructions. If there is no tagging and it is not clear that the seeds have been somehow processed, then experienced gardeners are recommended to do the following:

  • honey is dissolved in water (preferably thawed): 1 tbsp. l on 500 ml,
  • the seeds are placed in the solution for 30 minutes,
  • the soaked seeds are thrown back on the sieve and dried,
  • powder biological bactericides for the prevention of disease (Gamar, Alirin).

Now the seeds can be sown. The optimum temperature before germination is +20 ° C. As soon as the seedlings sprout, they should be transferred to the lightest and coolest window (+10 ° C). Otherwise the seedlings will stretch. The land should always be wet, but in a city apartment it is poorly ventilated. There is a high risk of black leg disease. Therefore, the aisles are powdered with ashes, and 2 weeks after germination they are poured with a solution of the fungicide Glyocladin. The drug inhibits the development of fungal diseases in all cultures grown in indoor conditions.

If the land is initially filled with organic matter and microelements, then it is not necessary to feed the seedlings. If such a ground is not found, then you can feed complex fertilizers for seedlings, for example, RosPochva. Instructions on how and when to feed are attached to each such fertilizer.

Growing Rinda sowing in open ground

If there is no super-solar window, a heated greenhouse or a desire to highlight the cabbage with a special lamp, then the seedlings will surely stretch out. In addition, when transplanting to the site she is very sick. Some plants, not having got accustomed, perish. Therefore, now there is a tendency to sow cabbage seeds immediately in open ground. There are positive reviews of such an experience, and specifically about the Rind variety.

When sown in May, the heads of Rinda will reach technical maturity in late August-September.

Stages of cultivation by sowing in open ground:

  1. Planting scheme for Rinda: 70 x 45 cm. According to this plan, we need to make holes in the plot prepared for cabbage.
  2. Spill the wells with water to keep the soil moist to a depth of 20 cm.
  3. Plant 3-4 seeds into each well, cover the nest with the upper part of a plastic bottle with a cork (cut off the bottom). This mini-greenhouse can also be aired.
  4. After the emergence of shoots need to leave one of the strongest plants in each well. The rest pinch, not pull out, so as not to damage the root of the remaining sprout.
  5. In a plastic bottle, the plant can be kept until the leaves begin to touch the walls.

In the spring of any young cultural plant is a treat for insects. As soon as you take shelter, cabbage sprouts can be attacked by cruciferous flea and eat them literally in a day. To make the cabbage tasteless for pests, you need to pour it from the watering can with plain water and powder the wet leaves with ash, tobacco, or tobacco. After watering or rain, the procedure is repeated. The rest of the care for cabbage, planted by direct sowing in the ground, does not differ from the care of cabbage grown from seedlings.

Scheme and time of landing

Cabbage seedlings aged 30–35 days, purchased or grown on a window sill, are transferred to a permanent plot. It is advisable to choose cloudy rainy weather, then the plants will suffer less from the sun. On hot days, Rindu is planted in the evening, and in the afternoon she will have to shade, arrange 2-3 times a day a “shower” from a watering can. Do not rush to plant all the cabbages at once. If some plants do not take root, they will die, in their place you can annoy the seedlings still in the box.

Care for cabbage in open ground

Any cabbage likes regular watering and feeding. Rinda variety is no exception.

The first two weeks, the plants are watered every 3-4 days. Water consumption under each spine - 1–1.5 l. After 10–14 days, the entire soil is watered on a cabbage patch, and not just around the plant. For 1 m² spend 8-10 liters of water. During the period of setting heads, the rate increases to 15–20 l per 1 m².

You need to water every 3-4 days, and in the heat and during the period of growth of heads - every other day. This mode is maintained throughout the cultivation and stop watering 2 weeks before the onset of technical ripeness. In Rinda, this occurs approximately 100 days after germination and 70 days after transplanting. If the seedlings were planted in mid-May, then stop watering at the end of July.

Do not hope for rain. Rainfall is rare, often short-term light rainfall. Take a handful of earth from a depth of 30–40 cm. If it does not stick together, crumbles, then you need to water, despite the rain that has passed.

Variety description

Rind's cabbage has a full name - Rinda F1, because it is a hybrid derived by foreign breeders. This cabbage with light green leaves grows during the season cabbages weighing from 4 to 6 kg. Its leaves are thin, but at the same time elastic, characterized by tenderness and juicy taste. Spreading of these leaves is average, and the stalk is short.

The spherical shape of the heads and thin, but dense leaves are the visiting card of the Rind variety

Distinctive characteristics of the variety - high yield and mid-ripeness. On average, the period from the first shoots to full technical ripeness is 85 - 90 days. It’s not scary to overdo plants in the garden, because the cabbages are not prone to cracking while maintaining high density.

Site selection, soil preparation and planting material

Cabbage is a light-loving crop, and the Rinda variety is generally very dependent on light, and the slightest shading can seriously affect the development of the plant and the quality of the crop. Therefore, for planting choose a sunny and open place, where there is no stagnation of moisture and air. Groundwater in the selected area should be at a level not higher than a meter. Also excluded lowland places where moisture will stagnate, and elevations where it will be lacking.

Provide an open sunny place for cabbage, where it will be well ventilated and not stagnate in groundwater.

It is necessary to prepare the land for planting in advance - in the fall. Lime is ground (for 1 sq. M. 0.5 kg of lime powder is taken) and supplied with organic matter (by a bucket of humus or peat per 1 sq. M.). By spring, the soil will be in full readiness for cabbage planting. By the way, if this culture has already grown on the chosen place, then it will be possible to re-plant it here not earlier than in 4 - 5 years. Also bad predecessors for cabbage are crops such as turnips, beets, radishes, radishes and tomatoes. Planting cabbages in the place where the grains, potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, cucumbers, beans and eggplant grew will be successful.

And now rewind time a little back, by the time the seedlings are grown. However, it is possible to grow cabbage of a variety of Rinda in a seedless way.

Seedless way

Given the not very long maturation of cabbage heads, you can do without growing seedlings. In this case, the seeds are planted in the spring (usually in the middle of May) in open ground, which should be well moistened with precipitation. The distance between the holes should be about 3 cm, and between the rows leave 10 cm. Seeds are sown in 6 - 7 pieces per well at a depth of 2 - 3 cm, but not deeper. After their laying, the holes are mulched with horse humus or sawdust.

You can also plant cabbage seeds according to the scheme 70x70, laying 2 - 3 seeds per well for reliability. With the simultaneous germination of more than two seeds in the future they will need to dive.

Almost all gardeners are interested in the issue of seed germination. Check it is easy - just fill the planting material with a liter of salt water (30 g of salt per 1 l of water) and leave for a few minutes. Bad, damaged, as well as empty seeds will float, and the full-fledged ones will remain at the bottom. Next, the calibration of the seeds should follow - the largest ones are selected and, preferably, the same size. Then they are placed in hot water (about 45 - 50 ° C) to get rid of various bacteria.

You can grow cabbage from seeds immediately in the open ground

There are advantages and disadvantages to a seedless way. Thus, plants germinated from seeds immediately in the open field, more quickly and better adapt to weather conditions. However, during the growing season for cabbage will require more attentive care and active control of weeds and insects. In addition, planting cabbage immediately in open ground, you need to be sure that the return frost will not.

Seedling method

The land, as in the previous case, is prepared in advance. Seeds are calibrated and quality checked. But already planted in peat or plastic pots, tapes or coconut substrate to a depth of 1.5 cm.

Grow cabbage in a greenhouse or at home. The main requirements are the temperature before spitting + 20 ... + 22 ° С and + 8 ... + 10 ° С after the seeds germinate, as well as excellent illumination so that the seedlings do not stretch.

Two weeks later, the grown seedlings, which acquired the first true leaves, dive into more spacious containers after a heavy abundant irrigation. Landing in the ground is carried out when each seedling will have 6 to 8 true leaves. Usually this period comes from 30 to 40 days of cultivation.

Cabbage seedlings are planted in open ground, when the threat of recurrent frosts is over

The advantage of the seedling method of cultivation is that you can harvest a couple of weeks earlier than with seedless. However, with insufficient lighting, seedlings can stretch and weaken, which will lead to numerous diseases. In addition, cabbage, in principle, does not like transplants, and when finding a new place for a while, overcomes the stressful state. However, it is not as prepared for various weather problems, like the one that was originally grown in open ground.

Plant care

Its yield and quality of the forks are directly dependent on the level of your care for cabbage. And first of all it is worth mentioning about watering.

The ground under cabbage should always be slightly damp, do not let it dry out completely

Cabbage is demanding on the moisture content of the soil. On average, seeds planted directly in open ground or seedlings should be watered at least twice a week. That is, on average, this is every 3 to 4 days. In this case, about 10 liters of water are consumed per square meter of bed. When the cabbage leaves become large, the rate is increased to 12-14 liters per square meter. at the same time supplying water to plants already once a week or a little less - once in 9 days. Take special care when watering during the period of laying out and growing a head of cabbage - strict adherence to periodicals at this time can bring excellent results, and non-compliance can lead to failure of all activities.

Do not forget after each watering to loosen the earth 10 cm deep, so that the roots of the cabbage receive not only moisture, but also oxygen.

Weeding, loosening, hilling

Loosening the soil after irrigation is not all. After all, the precipitations, especially strong, also contribute to the compaction of the topsoil and the formation of a crust. Therefore, after heavy rains or just heavy rain, be sure to loosen the beds.

Hilling allows to support young cabbage plants, which at the moment still have a thin stalk

At the same time try to remove the emerging weeds so that they do not spoil the picture. The problem with growing cabbage is often not that weeds prevent the culture from absorbing water and nutrients, but that it is an intermediate link in the spread of diseases and insect pests. That is why it is so important to regularly get rid of even little weeds.

It is equally important not to forget about the hilling of cabbage. This operation is required twice per season. The first time this is done two weeks after the seedlings were transferred to the open ground, and the second - a month after the first one. So you can support the still fragile seedlings and stimulate their proper growth and development.

Remember that hilling is carried out on a day when there is no wind and rain.

Breeding history

Rinda F1 is a hybrid variety bred on the basis of white Cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. Capitata) by Dutch breeders of the agricultural firm Monsanto. Culture has an average ripening time. On sale seeds of this variety can be found under the label Seminis (this is the name of a subsidiary of the company Monsanto). Since 1993, the variety is listed in the State Register and recommended for the Central and Volga-Vyatka regions.

Rind's cabbage F1 is a popular hybrid variety of Dutch origin

Correct fit

Rinda F1 cabbage is planted in flat sunlit areas. Lowland places and elevations are undesirable for this culture. Cabbage does not tolerate stagnant moisture, as well as its disadvantage. The level of groundwater should not exceed 1-1.5 m from the surface.

When choosing a site, you must adhere to the rules of crop rotation. Cabbage in its original place can be planted in 3-4 years. You should not use the plot on which tomatoes were grown, beets, turnips, radishes or radishes. Successful cultivation of cabbage will be after potatoes, cereals and legumes, eggplant, cucumbers, carrots, garlic and onions. The variety of Rinda F1 is undemanding to the type of soil.

For cabbage beds choose a light windless area

Important! Planting Rinda F1 cabbage is allowed only in well-lit areas, since a lack of light will lead to lower yields.

Preparation of the site begin in the autumn after harvesting the previous harvest. The soil is dug up to the level of a spade bayonet and 10-15 kg of peat, rotted manure or humus are introduced, as well as 500 g of lime per 1 m 2.

Plant cabbage in two ways:

  • seedlings
  • direct landing in the ground.

Growing in a seedless manner

Many gardeners choose a seedless method. Its popularity is due to many advantages:

  • labor costs are reduced by 50%, since this option does not involve the cultivation and transplantation of seedlings,
  • the growing season is reduced by 15-18 days,
  • the cabbage planted in this way does not waste time and effort on restoring the roots and survival rate, as it happens with the seedlings,
  • the yield increases, because the cabbage develops a more powerful root system, which is able to extract moisture from the deep layers of the soil,
  • heads of cabbage grown in a seedless way are stored longer.

So, the process begins with the preparation of planting material:

  1. First select viable seeds. To do this, they are poured with brine (40 g per 10 liters of water). Only seeds remaining at the bottom are suitable for planting, since they are highly germinating. But the planting material that surfaced is empty or damaged.
  2. Then the seeds are calibrated, that is, medium and large specimens with a size of 1.5–2.5 mm are selected.
  3. Next, in order to disinfect them, they are immersed for 20 minutes in water at a temperature of 50 ° C, after which they are dried, laid out on a towel.

Cabbage is planted from late April to mid-May. The procedure is performed in the following sequence:

  1. Seeds are placed in the wells with a depth of 2–3 cm. They are dug out after 3 cm, and in the rows between them leave a distance of 10 cm.
  2. In each hole put 5-6 seeds. The wells are recommended to fall asleep with humus.
  3. When the height of sprouts reaches 15 cm, thin out the cabbage. In each nest choose the most developed escape, all others are removed.

Growing seedlings

  3. At the age of 14–15 days, shoots watered and swooped in a larger tank. Each seedling pruned a third of the spine, and then placed in the ground to the level of cotyledonary leaves.
  4. After another week spend re-feeding. This time use double rate of fertilizers on 1 l of water.
  5. After 30–40 days, when 6–7 leaves of each sprout are formed, they are transplanted into open ground according to the 30x70 cm scheme. But 10 days before this, the plants begin to harden. For the first two days, just open the windows for this. Then the seedlings are kept outdoors for 3 hours a day. From the sixth day, seedlings are moved to the street or balcony.
  6. 2 days before disembarking, a third feeding is carried out. Sprouting watered nutrient composition (for 1 liter of water 2 g of saltpeter, 4 g of superphosphate and 7 g of potassium sulfate).

Important! The seedling must be in a lighted room, otherwise the shoots may become excessively stretched.

Growing cabbage seedlings allows you to select the strongest specimens.

Hilling and watering the soil

One stage of care is hilling, since the procedure will speed up the development of cabbage. The first time this action is performed 2 weeks after transplanting, then after one month. Around the plant form an earthen roller with a height of up to 30 cm. After rains and watering, the soil is loosened.

Important! With seedless growing, earthing up occurs when the height of seedlings reaches 7–10 cm.

When growing cabbage, it is undesirable to allow the soil to dry out. Water the plant with a watering can with a spray. A hose for this purpose is not recommended, as the soil is too compacted under the action of a jet. You can also use a drip irrigation system. This method is to use a hose that unfolds on the surface or buried in the ground, and water is fed through special small holes.

Loosening and watering make the crop grow stronger

Watering is carried out according to a certain schedule, but it can vary depending on precipitation. To understand whether cabbage needs moisture, you need to take a lump of earth from a depth of 7–8 cm and squeeze it. If the soil crumbles, there is a need for watering.

Rind F1 variety story

White cabbage Rinda F1 - a hybrid of Dutch selection, mid-ripening period. Since 1993, this variety is included in the state register of Russia for cultivation in the Volga-Vyatka and Central regions.

Cabbage has established itself as a high-yielding variety, suitable for fresh use in salads, for preparing many dishes and preparations, as well as for selling on the market.

Key Features and Description

Heads of cabbage Rinda F1 are dense, regular round shape, uniform light green outside and almost white inside. Variety with excellent taste and high yield - cabbages often reach a weight of 7–8 kg, with an average weight of 3–4 kg. In addition, Rinda F1 is not prone to cracking and is quite resistant to various diseases and damage by pests. Differs amicable formation of the crop. In terms of ripening refers to the mid, about 100 days to full maturity.

Planting and care methods

To grow cabbage Rinda F1 can be sprouted and seedless ways, but, in any case, you must first prepare a plot for planting cabbage. The beds should be located in open solar space. Shadowing a hedge or nearby trees will prevent the heading of the heads. When choosing a place for cabbage, you must pay attention to its predecessors. It’s good if onions, garlic, beans, potatoes, carrots or zucchini grew on the garden before cabbage. Do not plant seedlings after cruciferous crops: turnips, radishes, lettuce, mustard. Despite the low soil requirements, a good harvest of Rind F1 cabbage can be obtained on neutral or low acidity soils.

Preparation of beds begin in the fall. Acidic soils should be deoxidized by adding lime-fuzz, dolmitic flour or chalk at a rate of 0.5 kg per 1 sq. M. Fertilizers are applied to poor, barren soils - a compost bucket, 2 cups of ash, 30 g of superfreshfat and 40 g of potassium sulphate per 1 sq. M. In the spring, nitrogen fertilizers are added - 40 g of urea per 1 square meter. On fertile soils can be limited to the introduction of organic matter.

Step by step sowing process

  1. Fill the crate with prepared wet soil.
  2. Seeds, if not marked that they are processed by the manufacturer, soak for half an hour in honey solution (a teaspoon of honey per 1 cup of water).
  3. Dried seeds are sown in wells, to a depth of 1-1.5 cm.
  4. To level the soil, spray planting.
  5. With the emergence of shoots, lower the temperature to 10-12 degrees and provide good lighting, it is possible to light up.
  6. Two weeks later, spread out the seedlings in separate tanks.
  7. Prevent the soil from drying out - monitor watering.

Planting seedlings on the beds can be after the threat of return frost. By the time of disembarkation, cabbage should have 7–8 leaves formed. Ideal to land on a cloudy rainy day or in the evening if the weather is sunny. Dig a hole, pour water into it, lower a sapling, sprinkle with earth, slightly condense. The wells should be approximately 40 cm apart. Planted cabbage seedlings, it is desirable to mulch with rotted sawdust or peat - this will help prevent moisture loss. If the warm sunny weather is established, then the first days of the seedlings need to pritenyat so that it is well caught.

For the prevention of fungal and bacterial diseases during planting, you can use the microbiological fungicide Fitosporin. This drug is used at any stage - they can process the soil, seeds, cuttings, seedlings and adult plants. Fitosporin is harmless to beneficial insects and has a 4th class of danger to humans.

Video: planting cabbage seedlings in the ground

As for pest control, I can share my experience.

The main pests of cabbage, and how I struggle with them:

  • Cruciferous flea scary only young cabbage, can eat it whole. They reproduce mainly in spring and in the first half of summer. I do not wait, when they will appear. I water the cabbage over the leaves with clean water and after each watering I powder all the plants and the ground with wood ash or tobacco dust. Can be mixed in any proportion or used separately. As soon as this protection washes away with rain or irrigation water, I repeat the treatment.
  • It is extremely unpleasant for me to collect white caterpillars by hand. Therefore, as soon as I see butterflies at the site, I sprinkle cabbage with Karbofos (60 g per 10 l of water) or Aktara (2 g per 10 l). After 10 days I repeat. The moths hover over the beds and lay eggs in early summer, before harvesting far away, it is still possible to spray chemicals. They will have time to split into safe connections.
  • From the slugs, she used to use various store dressings, but these pests still got into the heads, made moves and laid eggs there. Last summer I found my natural remedy. On the border of our site grows a huge pine. I collected fallen needles under it and spread it around each head of cabbage. All summer I watered, loosened, spud. I thought the needles mixed with the soil and no longer help. However, in the fall, when collecting and processing cabbage, she did not find a single slug. But it is possible that the same preparations with the help of which I fought against the caterpillars and fleas helped against them.

In order not to witness such a terrible sight, even during the flight of butterflies I make cabbage leaves poisonous with the help of long-acting drugs.

Another important agricultural application in the process of growing cabbage is feeding. Rinda is very responsive to soil fertility. If it is good to “feed” it, then the heads of cabbies can grow up to 8 kg and more. From the moment of appearance of the first true leaf and before the formation of heads, feed for 2 weeks once with nitrogen-containing mixtures. It can be infusions of mullein (1:10), bird droppings (1:20), horse manure (1:10), weeds (1: 5), urea solution (30g per 10 liters of water) or ammonium nitrate (20 g 10 l).

Popular, effective and free fertilizer - fermented weed grass infusion diluted 1: 5 with water

When in the center of the rosettes begin to grow heads, go to potash supplements with trace elements. You can use wood ash. Scatter 2 tbsp. l under each head out and burn. Buy special mixes for cabbage Gumi-Omi, Agricola, BioHumus, etc. in the store. Check that the composition contains potassium and phosphorus, as well as: boron, copper, manganese, zinc, sulfur, etc. Nitrogen may be present, but in low concentration .

Harvesting Rinda Cabbage Harvest

Do not overreact Rindu on the bed, do not wait for the first frost, if you sow it ahead of time. After the growing season, begin harvesting. Choose a sunny but cool day. Cut the cabbages with a part of the leg (2–3 cm), tear off all the leaves, leaving 3–4 coverts. Put in clean baskets and transfer to a cool and dry room.

Use a large and sharp knife to cut was smooth, without chipping

Damaged cabbages need to be recycled, they are suitable for pickling and cooking dishes: side dishes, soups, salads. Whole and dense cabbies can be stored in the refrigerator, basement or cellar. But first, let the slice on the stem and covering leaves dry for 3–5 days, then wrap the forks in cling film. At a temperature of + 2 ... +4 ⁰C, Rinda will remain fresh for at least 2-3 months.

Often during storage of heads in the film, the upper leaves eventually turn black and rot. The first reason is that the maximum period has been reached, during which this variety or hybrid can be stored. The second, the most common - the cabbages were wrapped in wet, the cut and the upper leaves were not depressed. As a result, condensation formed under the film, causing rot.

Reviews of Dutch hybrid Rinda

I tried different varieties of white cabbage: SB-3, Megaton, Mother-in-law, Rinda F1, etc. Most liked Rinda F1 (Dutch series) and from the early Nozomi F1 (Japanese series). It is better not to take our domestic seeds of these hybrids, they have not sprouted from me (Altai seeds, Eurosemen). I grow up seedlings in a box: two logs on the ground and on the logs a box with garden soil. Around 5-6 liter bottles with water for thermal compensation. Before the emergence of shoots, if it is cool, the box is closed on top with glass. At night, I close the double old agrylo (spunboard).

Last year, she also planted Rindu, really liked it, and just put it out, and stuffed cabbage rolls, and for pickling, perfect. I also liked the cabbage Krautman. I did not bother with seedlings, planted in early June, although the seeds were already germinated, everything grew beautifully, in late August it was already possible to use

Rinda medium cabbage, if not cut in time, then bursts.

Ekimov Mikhail

Last year, two varieties of cabbage “Rinda” and “Sugar Loaf” were planted. We will not plant Rindu anymore, as she has cracked all over, and her slugs have been devoured.

Last year, it didn’t help me - and I rotated heads of cabbages. and cut roots at them (also read about it somewhere). This year, too, will crack. I decided not to touch anything and that is why - weighed one cracked head = 8600. What kind of health do you need to have to turn it off? This is my Rinda F1 growing by leaps and bounds.

I sow straight into the greenhouse, dive into the cups and land in the ground from the cups. root system is closed, very good survival rate. This year has sown many "Rinda", "Megaton" and "Kilatona"

Svetlana Yurievna

The main thing is that when growing Rinda, calculate the sowing date correctly and harvest in time. During the summer, regular watering is needed to avoid sudden changes in soil moisture. Without compliance with these rules, the heads of stone can crack. The hybrid responds with active growth to soil fertility and top dressing. Like any cabbage, Rinda needs protection from pests. All your efforts will surely pay off smooth and dense heads of cabbage with excellent taste.
