Many, buying a cottage or a plot of land, face problems of uneven ground: slopes, pits, and potholes. Some landowners, dreaming about how to level the plot, think that it is very expensive to do this, and it will take a lot of effort, time and material resources. Of course, everything can be corrected by using the services of one of the companies involved in the landscape, or with the help of hired workers. But you can try to level the relief yourself. Of course, this will require certain material and physical costs, but you will save a lot of money, which will be useful for repairing a house or carrying out sewage, for example.

Feasibility

Before leveling the plot, think about the appropriateness of these actions. After all, sometimes it will be easier to beat uneven terrain or successfully hide them with a broken flowerbed or planted currant bushes. It will also be useful (and even now in fashion) stone gardens, curves, fabulous paths, decorative ponds. With this design you can hide any unevenness of the landscape. If earthworks are inevitable after all, proceed to them wisely, having developed an action plan in advance and having calculated the approximate costs. After all, who wants to spend a long time among the "excavations" that lasted indefinitely.

What tools are needed?

Before leveling the plot in the country, you need to purchase some useful tools.

  • Fan rakes for loosening the ground.
  • Shovels: bayonet and shovel.
  • Wheelbarrow for removal of soil and debris.
  • Chopper and garden rake.
  • Several long (more than two meters) wooden bars.
  • Wooden pegs to hammer into the ground, marking the territory.
  • Building level.
  • Rope, wire, broom and other necessary things.

Preparatory work

Before leveling the site with your own hands, you need to make some preparatory work that will contribute to your further actions.

  • We clean the area from bushes, grass, thorns, twigs and other trifles that prevent us from determining surface irregularities. This can be done quickly and efficiently with the help of a good durable rake, a trolley for garbage collection, a shovel and a broom.
  • Before leveling the parcel, divide it with stakes and rope into small equal parts. If the area is large, do it in stages, in several visits. If it is small, we divide it approximately into nine parts at once and drive in pegs. Between them, as even as possible, we stretch the rope parallel to the ground at a height of ten to fifteen centimeters on the same level to see which parts of the relief have their irregularities.

Main works

Now, having completed the training, you can proceed to the main part of the project “How to level the plot on your own”.

  • Visually determine: if there are bumps and pits in the marked area. we use for work the construction level and prepared wooden bars. We remove hills with the help of a bayonet spade, making chopping movements (especially in those cases when roots are present in the ground). Pits, if they are small, you can immediately fall asleep with the earth, taken from the hills, thus aligning the landscape. If it is not enough, the soil will have to buy (it is sold in specialized stores).
  • Then we level the land by plot, using a rake (if available - a cultivator). So that the soil does not subside, we tamp it with a special weighting projectile such as a small rink. You can borrow it from the builders, and you can make it yourself. To do this, pour sand, crushed stone into an ordinary barrel, fill it with water and carefully close it. Put the barrel on its side and roll it on the site. Thus the earth is compacted and well aligned. As a result, even after a spring flood, for example, the soil retains its shape.

Leveling preparation

  1. The first important point - zoning. To do this, you need to decide on the location where the house will be built, equipped with lawn, hozblok, garden and other buildings or plantings. The account takes into account the location of the site and its relief features in relation to the cardinal points, the level of soil fertility, groundwater occurrence, the nature of the flow.
  2. Soils with poor seepage require drainage arrangement. The layout of the drainage pipes and the cost of laying are designed in advance and carried out simultaneously with the activities that allow to level the plot at the cottage.
  3. If the north slope, then get rid of it, regardless of the slope. It warms up more slowly in spring and plants grow worse there. The southern and western slopes are preferable for the growth and development of garden and garden crops.
  4. Often you have to deal with small bumps, grooves or climbs. This causes a lot of inconvenience at the site and does not allow to build good ridges, to ensure uniform irrigation. Allowable height difference for construction does not exceed half a meter.

Evaluation of the feasibility of work

Thinking about the feasibility of leveling the relief of the cottage, evaluate the site from all sides. Take a look at the irregularities from different angles of the problem. Modern construction and plant materials will create a unique composition on the relief.

Compositions with conifers, alpine slides, grapes, and berry fields look good on areas with rugged relief.

Level the cottage if there is not enough space to build a house, bath, greenhouse, gazebos, if you need a lawn.

Determination of ground mass balance

This event will help estimate the volume of soil moved. Work with values that you can understand, for example, cubic meters or kilograms.

The calculation of the soil mass balance will help to estimate the material costs of manual and technical work, and how long it will take. Summer residents are unlikely to want the plot to be peeped for more than one season.

Accounting in kilograms will show the real picture of the plan. So, if it is designed to manually align the cottage, then perhaps this will prove to be an impossible task. What will be the mass of the volume of a lump of earth depends on the density, but for simplicity of counting it is considered as follows: 1 cubic decimeter = 1 kg.
