Whey as a fertilizer - how to apply in the garden

The benefits of whey is known to many. Its structure includes not only many useful substances, but also fermented milk bacteria that prevent reproduction of pathogenic flora. That is why this byproduct of milk processing is widely used for feeding, as well as protecting plants from diseases and pests. How to use the serum for plants properly, to get a good harvest, you can learn from our article.

How to make whey

Serving tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries and plants with whey using microelements in the fermented milk product, you can get a good harvest of high-quality fruits. Serum can be bought at the store or made on the basis of milk itself.

Serum cooking recipe:

  • add some fermented milk product to milk and leave it to sour in a warm place,
  • put the sour milk in a saucepan over low heat and heat it so that it does not boil,
  • after some time, the sour milk will be divided into curd mass and liquid,
  • the pan must be removed from the heat and filtered through cheesecloth.

Approximately 600 ml of serum will be obtained from 1 liter of milk.

Plant Serum Application

Pure whey is not used. From it prepare solutions, the concentration of which depends on whether they will be used for watering or spraying the plants:

  • water the plants with a solution made from a fermented milk product and water (1:10),
  • a more concentrated whey solution is prepared for spraying the leaves (1 liter of the product is diluted in 3 liters of water).

How to treat tomatoes with whey

Tomatoes need not only top dressing, but also protection from various diseases. Most often, the culture is affected by late blight, from which whey will help protect. After spraying the bushes with a solution on the leaves, a film is formed that will prevent fungi from developing and penetrating the plant itself.

The first foliar processing tomato can be carried out two weeks after transplanting. Since the whey film will not hold on the foliage for long, the spraying is repeated every 10 days. It is also recommended to process tomatoes in the open ground after the rains.

To treat the tomatoes with leaf whey, use a solution of a liter of water and a liter of fermented milk product.

Horse-fed top dressing with whey solution of tomato is carried out according to the following schedule:

  1. For the first time, fertilizer can be applied to the soil 12-14 days after transplanting.
  2. The second feeding is carried out two weeks after the first.
  3. The third time the tomatoes are watered during flowering.

Such root dressing will help the tomatoes to grow well and contributes to an increase in yield.

Cucumbers - dressing with whey

In order to improve immunity and get a good crop of cucumbers, they are started to be fed with a whey solution 10 days after planting. Feeding is carried out once every 7-14 days, alternating watering the soil with spraying the leaves.

To protect cucumbers from powdery mildew, it is recommended to use a serum solution with iodine, the recipe of which is described below.

Processing onions and root vegetables

The whey solution with the extract of tobacco leaf will protect the onions from the onion flies, if carried out on a green leaf. When the onions grow, the soil around them is watered with whey solution once a week.

Radishes, turnips, beets and carrots fertilize and protect against diseases and pests, for which, after the fourth leaf appears, foliar feeding is used. The frequency of spraying depends on the condition of the plants.

Use of serum in the greenhouse

Since the greenhouse has high humidity and air temperature, this should be taken into account and use whey solution for processing tomatoes and cucumbers carefully:

  • apply only warm solution within +20 degrees for irrigation,
  • before using the serum the soil needs to be watered, as feeding on dry ground can burn the roots,
  • feeding should be early in the morning or in the evening,
  • the greenhouse should be regularly ventilated.

Using whey as a fertilizer

The use of whey as a fertilizer in the garden improves the condition of the plants, saturates them with the necessary trace elements, allows you to get a higher yield of high-quality fruits. In addition, fermented milk product helps in the fight against fungal diseases..

The introduction of whey carried out root and foliar ways.

For root dressing, diluted 1 part of serum is mixed with 10 parts of water. The resulting solution is poured on the basal area within a radius of about 50 cm, then plentifully watered. It is necessary to take into account that whey contains lactic acid, therefore it is capable of increasing the acidity of the soil.

For foliar application with a 10% solution of serum, leaves of plants are sprinkled abundantly. Plant growers do not recommend using a sprayer for this, as small pieces of cottage cheese can clog a spray bottle. For better effect, you can add a little shampoo or grated soap to the solution. Spraying should not be carried out with strong wind, precipitation, strong solar radiation..

Complex fertilizers from whey

With the help of plant serum, it is possible to prepare a natural complex fertilizer containing all the substances necessary for the plant.

  1. Baker's yeast is diluted in sweet water, left to warm until completely dissolved. Chicken dung placed in 20 - 30 liter capacity, add ash. The resulting mixture is poured with whey, add dissolved yeast. The mixture must be infused for 1 to 2 weeks. Before use, diluted with water in a ratio of 1:10. The average yield of the solution is about 0.5 liters per plant.
  2. The mowed grass is placed in a 50 liter barrel, a bucket of ash is added, poured with whey. The mixture is left to ferment in a warm place for 2 to 3 weeks. The mixture is diluted in equal parts with water. One plant will need to make 0.5 liters.
  3. To 2 liters of whey add 5 tablespoons of honey, 10 drops of iodine, a glass of ash. The mixture is thoroughly mixed, leave to infuse for 2 to 3 days. Most effectively used during flowering foliar method and soaking seeds.

Yeast contains a complex of vitamins of group B, magnesium, active enzymes. For plants are a natural biostimulator. The use of yeast to feed plants requires the mandatory application of potash fertilizers, since they significantly reduce the amount of potassium. This fertilizer can be wood ash. It contains a lot of potassium, magnesium, sulfur and other trace elements, with the exception of nitrogen. To compensate for the nitrogen deficiency, apply chicken manure.

The mowed grass contains all substances necessary for plant life. In the process of fermentation, most of the amino acids and microelements pass into the solution, which is subsequently treated with plants.

Pest and disease treatment

Lactic acid, which is contained in fermented milk products, effectively counteracts a number of fungal diseases. These include:

  • Late blight,
  • Powdery mildew,
  • Rust,
  • Scab,
  • Fusarium,
  • Leaf spot.

The most effective use of dairy product in order to prevent diseases. For this, the plants are sprayed with a serum solution. To prepare the solution, 1 liter of serum is mixed with 3 liters of water. The treatment is carried out early in the morning, with a frequency of 2-3 times a month.

Serum helps to successfully fight a number of harmful insects. Means relieves aphids, cruciferous flea, onion flies.

In addition to processing leaves and green branches, insect traps work well. In order to make a trap, a small container is placed in the ground, a little serum is poured into the bottom. Attracted by the smell of insects fall into the tank and can not get back. Especially effective tool works from slugs and earwigs.

Application for garden crops

Not all garden crops respond well to dairy fertilizer. Most serum is suitable for tomatoes and cucumbers, significantly increasing the quantity and quality of fruits. But not recommended for peppers and eggplant, the use of the product may worsen their condition.

Fertilize cucumbers begin 10 days after landing on a permanent place. For greater effect, root and foliar feeding alternate with a frequency of 1 - 2 weeks.

For the prevention of powdery mildew and other fungal diseases, foliar treatment of cucumbers with serum diluted with water is used. For the best effect, add a few drops of iodine to the solution.

And a little about the secrets of the author

Have you ever experienced unbearable joint pain? And you know firsthand what it is:

  • inability to move easily and comfortably,
  • discomfort when going up and down stairs
  • an unpleasant crunch, a crack not at will,
  • pain during or after exercise,
  • inflammation in the joints and swelling,
  • unreasonable and sometimes unbearable aching pain in the joints.

And now answer the question: does it suit you? Is it possible to endure such pain? And how much money have you already “leaked” to ineffective treatment? That's right - it's time to stop with this! Do you agree? That is why we decided to publish an exclusive interview with Oleg Gazmanov, in which he revealed the secrets of getting rid of joint pain, arthritis and arthrosis.

The secret of whey

The liquid resulting from curdling milk is acidic and contains many useful substances. Especially important for garden plants are amino acids in its composition. Their value is not inferior in value to the trace elements that cultures receive directly from the soil. In addition, this product contains sulfur, nitrogen, phosphorus and calcium necessary for fruit and vegetable crops.

Observations show that the acidic environment of whey inhibits many pests of plants and trees and therefore increases fertility, and the crop becomes healthy. Due to its properties, serum can prevent the occurrence of phytophthora on tomatoes, powdery mildew on cucumbers, and even serve as a good bait for pests.

How to make fertilizer

If whey is chosen as a fertilizer for plants, how to use it is not at all an idle question. Consider some recipes for the preparation of nutrient solutions for spraying and watering garden crops. It is important to remember that feeding plants with undiluted whey can do more harm than good. The acid reaction of this dairy product can not only upset the fragile balance of the soil, but also cause damage to the plant itself when sprayed on the leaves.

Considering the above, when adding the solution under the root, the serum should be diluted tenfold, that is, take 10 liters of water for dilution per liter. If plants are fertilized on leaves, then the concentration of the solution can be increased to 1: 3. If the tomatoes hit phytophthora or cucumbers ached with powdery mildew, then spraying is carried out with undiluted whey.

Fertilizer recipes

In addition to simple dilution, whey can serve as a component of complex fertilizer. Very good use of iodine in nutrient solutions. It has not only a nutritional effect, but also destroys a variety of pests. To achieve this effect, it is enough to add 10 drops of an alcoholic solution of iodine per 10 liters of serum solution. Pumpkin cultures (squash, squash, cucumber), as well as tomatoes, react particularly well on spraying with such a mixture. With this solution you can successfully deal with late blight and powdery mildew. It is best to prophylactically spray the plants before the onset of the disease, since it is much more difficult to control it than to warn.

Important: if the method of spraying is chosen, and not watering at the root, then it is better to add grated soap to the solution. It will promote better adhesion to the leaves and increase the effectiveness of the use of this fertilizer.

Research scientists allowed to identify cultures of effective microorganisms (EM-drugs), allowing to increase soil fertility. You can make these drugs at home from improvised means, which include serum. We present one of the ways to create such a natural and very useful solution.

You need a plastic or metal barrel for 200 liters, which you need to add:

  1. 3-liter, fermented for two or three days, a solution of yeast and sugar (100 grams of sugar, a pinch of yeast and three liters of warm water).
  2. Ash (one shovel).
  3. Chicken dung or manure (1/2 bucket).
  4. Land or compost (one shovel).
  5. Rotten plant debris (fallen leaves or straw) - one bucket.
  6. Sand - as much as a shovel.
  7. Serum - 1 liter (can be replaced with kefir or yogurt).

The contents of the barrel filled with water and insist seven days, stirring occasionally. Before using the required amount of the solution is diluted with water twice.

Whey is an important component of solutions that accelerate the maturation of compost. The recipe for such an "accelerator" is extremely simple: 200 ml. warm water dissolve half a pack of dry yeast and add 0.2 liters of whey. In the compost heap make grooves, into which the resulting liquid is poured. After two weeks, the compost reaches the proper degree of maturity. If this method is applied to fresh manure, then the rate of its maturation will increase significantly and it can be applied in two months.

The composition and beneficial properties of fermented milk product

Whey is a byproduct of milk processing, which is formed when the protein is folded, with an increase in acidity due to the activity of lactic acid bacteria or when rennet is added. The coagulated thick mass is separated (curd is obtained from it), and the remaining liquid is whey.

Whey - a real fount of nutrients, vitamins and trace elements for both people and plants in the garden.

The positive impact on the growth and development of plants of such a slaughter cocktail is difficult to overestimate: the root system develops, the green mass grows and the fruit ovaries form.

From which diseases and for which plants

Serum contains lactic acid bacteria and lactic acid, which inhibit fungi and many insect pests. It can be used both in the garden and in the garden.

Most garden plants react positively to the processing of dairy products: tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, onions, strawberries and strawberries.

  • Tomatoes are recommended to spray often, after each rain. This will help to prevent blight and fusarium.
  • Cucumbers are treated not earlier than 10 days after planting the seedlings in a permanent place. Serum helps to cope with powdery mildew; for best results, up to 1-2 drops of iodine solution are added to each liter of solution.
  • Strawberries and strawberries solution will help protect against late blight and various spots.
  • From planting onions fermented milk solution will help drive away the onion fly. To enhance the effect in the working solution, you can add tobacco dust.
Not all plants respond positively to this treatment. Peppers and eggplants do not like it.

The garden will also be used for whey. Lactic acid inhibits the development of the same powdery mildew, scab, and rust in shrubs and fruit trees. In addition, she successfully copes with the dominance of aphids and moths.

How to cook and apply fertilizer

You can fertilize planting in two ways: foliar and root. In the first case, top dressing is applied directly to the leaves and stems, in the second case - it is applied to the soil under the fertilized plant.

Root top dressing is used mainly for young seedlings, so nutrients are absorbed faster. For adult plants it is better to use the first method. When using whey it is necessary to monitor the acidity of the soil, it is quite acidic. To increase the positive effect when using whey as a fertilizer for a garden, it is better to use it in combination with other components. For example, sugar (100 g per 2 l of the initial liquid), yeast, iodine is added to the whey solution, and mowed grass is drawn onto it.

It would be very useful to add ash to this mixture: it will reduce the acidity of the solution and enrich it with potassium. Water is added at the rate of 1:10 for root dressings or 1: 3 for watering over the leaves.

Features of use in the greenhouse

The use of whey in a closed greenhouse or greenhouse requires more caution than in the garden. In order to avoid burns on the leaves, spraying is carried out with weaker solutions. When carrying out root dressing, fertilizer is applied to the soil that has been pre-moistened, trying not to touch the foliage and stems. After watering with a whey solution, the greenhouse is aired.

Whey is an affordable and universal remedy that will protect your plants from diseases and pests and give them a complex of trace elements and vitamins necessary for active growth and fruiting.
